Problem connecting Nokia E65 to iSync
I’ve just got a Nokia E65 to use the built-in VoIP functionality and like most people I can’t really start to use it until I’ve got all my contacts transferred over. I don’t fancy typing in over 100 names and numbers again.
On OSX there is a lovely application called iSync that I use to synchronise data between computers (using .mac) and various devices. So it seemed obvious to synch my new E65 with iSync and away I go.
The first thing I did was to download the Nokia plugin for iSync and install it. This was painless and iSync immediately recognised the phone and configured itself.
However when I first tried to sync (using USB) I got this horrible error message:
[Nokia E65] Device is not available or synchronization was cancelled. Close dialogs and applications on the phone and try again.
Device “Nokia E65″ synchronization failed
I tried all sorts of things to fix it, including attempting to reformat the E65. It turns out that unlike other S60 devices, you can’t actually reformat the E65 all you can do is reset the data.
Then I noticed in the online synchronisation manual that there should be a default synchronisation profile for PC Suite but my list of synchronisation profiles was empty. I had tried adding one already but been daunted by the questions. So I borrowed an E65 from a colleague and found their phone did have one.
The settings for this default PC Suite profile are:
| Sync profile name | PC Suite |
| Applications | |
| Contacts | |
| Include in sync | Yes |
| Local database | C:Contacts.cdb |
| Remote database | Contacts |
| Synchronisation type | Normal |
| Connection settings | |
| Server version | 1.2 |
| Server ID | PC Suite |
| Data bearer | Bluetooth |
| Host address | PC Suite |
| User name | None |
| Password | **** (leave blank) |
| Allow sync requests | Yes |
| Accept all sync reqs. | Yes |
and with those settings using iSync worked fine over USB, even though the profile is for Bluetooth. If you also want to do Calendar or Bookmarks then replace Contacts with Calendar or Bookmarks at the appropriate place.

Hey!
I’ve been trying to figure out how you did this because I’ve got the same problem. Although I have got a deafult sync profile, I get the same error message with iSync.
I can sync the address book but not iCal!
One thing I noticed is that I don’t have any “local database” thing in my settings on the phone. Please! Would be awesome if you could explain this a bit further!

on the e61, in the default profile, the ‘local database’ is read only. Even with changing the name of the default profile and making a new one, did not work.

Azin - Sorry, the post is not particularly clear about the hierarchy of options. The ‘local database’ mentioned above is under Synch profile/Applications/Contacts.
MS - I would suggest deleting all your profiles and then recreating just one using the settings above.

my query is regarding a Nokia 6120 classic but the operating system is the same I beleive.
When I first got it I synchonised it to my windows PC at work using Nokia PC Suite. I did this at the time, as no iSync plugin was available for iSync on my iMac machine at home (running OS X Tiger).
I have since located and installed a plugin for iSync for the 6120. With the plugin installed, the phone is recognised on the Mac, and the synchronisation process can be configured and started. However it fails with a message ’synchronisation error, the synchronisation was cancelled by the phone’ or something similar.
Is this because the phone cannot be setup to Sync with both PC Suite and with iSync? If so, I would like to disable synchronisation with PC Suite and only ever sync with the Mac via isync. How do I do this?
If all else fails, can I restore settings to the phone (preferably without removing applications and bookmarks that I have set if possible?)
Thanks for your help!

i also had problems syncing my calendar but solved them by unchecking the box that syncs all day items in the settings. somehow the e65 seems to crash on that?

I actually figured out how to get iCal and iSync working with my Nokia e65 and for those also experiencing issues you should try this:
I first removed the e65 device from iSync I then re-installed the Nokia iSync plugin and then paired the e65 again using the Bluetooth Setup Assistant.
Then I opened iSync and the first thing I did was to go to the iSync Preferences and pressed the “Reset Sync History” button and then “Reset Sync History” button again at the warning.
Pressed Sync in iSync and all Contacts and iCal events were synced successfully! YES!!!
Hopefully that helps someone out but I take no responsibility for any lost contact or event data although none of mine was deleted!…

My problem is that I can’t install the iSync update for the E65, because it says I don’t have the newest iSync update. But I do!

I downloaded the Nokia_E65_isync_plugin_1v1.dmg off the Nokia site, then it all worked fine!

Hi
Thanks for that. Worked brilliantly
Make sure if your doing this to make sure that iSync is closed before downloading the plugin. otherwise it wont work.
Thanks again

anyone know how the branding affects the phone, as compared with a SIM-free e65? and is the browser still the proprietery nokia browser?
try doing a hard reset but remember to save all your favorite things onto your memory card before you do.
Way cool phone though
